Joseph Jess Rey (he/they) grew up in south Los Angeles and received his BA in Literature from UCLA. He is a writer of fictions, poetics, and occasionally, nonfiction. His work typically revolves around queerness, magic, and identity. Rey is currently working on a collection of poetry, titled Poetry the Vampire Slayer, a mixture of found poetry and memoir revolving around the late 90’s television show Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He runs the Instagram “The Boy Who Cried Books” where he discusses queer books, shares his life, and promotes diversity in both literature and film.

Joseph hopes to start a small collective of queer writers of color based in Los Angeles in order to foster community and art. When not writing, which is so often these days, Rey can be found in a movie theater, snuggling with his dog, or on the internet somewhere.
